A simple dinner can be a wonderful ‘event’ to capture in your Travel Journal. Capturing Events in Your Travel Journal Our travel experiences are often filled with lots of ‘event’ experiences - some of them big events (major concerts) and some of them small events (birthday party). In fact, I’m a pretty firm believer that everything in our lives can be translated into an event. So let’s take a brief look at how you can capture events in your Travel Journal. This was the ‘critter’ sitting next to us on our final evening dinner in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Yes, it...
Your Travel Journal and the Sense of Smell…

Capturing Your 5 Senses Your Travel Journal and the Sense of Smell I’ve always been a big proponent of using all of your senses when doing a Travel Journals. In reality, it’s a very simple way to add such wonderful character to your descriptions of the places you’ve visited, meals you’ve enjoyed, and so much more. Maybe just pause for a moment and think about how you might describe the smell of that warm evening sea breeze as you relaxed in your tropical rental. When visiting the Big Island of Hawaii one time, I made up a couple of small Travel Journals that featured the plants and palms of Hawaii…..just for fun. I want to see if I could do it. :-) The fact of the matter is, you are ‘curating’ your life anyway – consciously or unconsciously! Maybe it’s the collector in me, (and perhaps that’s been honed by so many years working in Museums), but it’s an easy exercise for me to take a simple found object and make a collection of them. That’s what I’ve done here....but I’ve subverted...
Nautical Ephemera

Painting on old paper, on ‘ephemera’, is something I’ve been doing for a few years now. From envelopes and old cheques to yellowed old letterhead, postcards, and waybills......it’s all fodder for my watercolour brushes. This new series grew out of this long standing interest in old paper and the fact a friend was tossing some old navigation charts that were out of date. He knew I painted on ephemera and asked if I’d like to have them....I said ‘yes’. And the rest is history. The series here follows my penchant for all things ephemera - and it takes...
